Forest Trail and Road Closures Begin Friday, April 5 in Watershed Areas

Dead and dying trees
Dead and dying trees in our Watershed - Helicopter logging set to begin April 17th

The Ashland Forestland Climate Change Adaptation Project
is moving ahead, and by Friday, April 5, 2024, work will necessitate trail and road closures in the lower Ashland Watershed. This project is in response to the unprecedented and ongoing die-off of thousands of trees bordering our community. The work will reduce wildfire risk, build forest resilience and ensure trail and road safety.

Popular trails such as Bandersnatch, BTI, Jabberwocky, Red Queen, White Rabbit, and Alice in Wonderland, Wonder, among others, will close for 4-5 weeks as dead, dying and overcrowded trees now being cut will soon be removed by helicopter, set to arrive April 15. To find out where trails, roads and areas are closed please see the project website at ashland.or.us/ashlandforest and online map at gis.ashland.or.us/trails. Not all trails will be closed at all times, so check before you go.

Trails such as Oredson-Todd Woods, Hald-Strawberry Park, the Ditch Trail, Toothpick, Eastview, Catwalk, Lithia Park, Hitt Road and Acid Castles will be unaffected and open.

Please stay away from closed areas! Trees can fall even when no one is working in the area, causing serious personal injury. Closures will be enforced to keep people safe. Thank you for your patience while this important public safety project takes place.

Expect periodic noise, smoke and log truck traffic (view maps) through the first week of May. After April 15, log trucks will be using Granite St, North Main, East Main, Siskiyou Blvd, Walker Ave, Pinecrest Terrace, Ponderosa Dr and Timberline Terrace during the project. Please give log trucks extra space to maneuver in traffic…and a friendly wave for helping us keep our community safer.

To register for text updates on this City of Ashland project and any upcoming prescribed burning on City and Rogue River-Siskiyou National Forest areas surrounding Ashland, please send a text with the word WATERSHED in the message line to the number 888777 as the recipient.

We thank you for you patience with the critical project! "We are Better Together!"
