Since 1999, ongoing long-term restoration work at North Mountain Park has been directed toward improving wildlife habitat quality and diversity and engaging citizens in active stewardship. The main focus currently is controlling invasive non-native plants followed by propagation and planting of native trees, shrubs and perennials both at North Mountain Park and at other city park sites.
Volunteers can participate in a variety of restoration efforts at North Mountain Park and other locations. Periodic "Work Parties" are listed in the current newsletter.
Service programs provide students, ages 10 and up, and community members with opportunities to engage in outdoor stewardship activities at North Mountain Park or other park sites. Participants are provided with tools, snacks, and instruction and background information relevant to the specific service projects. No formalized educational program is included.
